Additional service information

Here's a little more information about the service and some links to further information about some of the topics.

On-demand product and stock information

With UB you are able to get real-time stock and product information for the retailers we support. We need this information to perform checkout, and we provide the service to you in addition to the core basket. This takes the form of API endpoints for what we call the UB Crawler.

You can use the information returned by the UB Crawler to populate your product listings or pages, so that items add to basket quickly, display up-to-date information or to ensure the latest stock levels.

Emails (and SMS) from UB and retailers

In order to provide the full ecommerce experience for shoppers we send them emails and SMS messages about their orders placed via UB. We send messages confirming that their orders will be placed with the retailer, we ask for additional information if it's required, and we also send messages when an order can't be placed. The emails we send are co-branded with our and your brand marks.

We also forward emails that are sent by the retailers – like confirmation messages and delivery notifications. To enable this UB operates an email proxying service. UB creates a unique email address for each transaction a shopper makes via UB. Messages from the retailers are sent to this address and are then forwarded on to the shopper.

3D Secure

Certain transactions require a user to verify their payment with 3D Secure (Verified by Visa, MasterCard SecureCode) at the time UB places the order. When this occurs we notify the shopper with an SMS and email. These messages contain links to pages on UB where authentication takes place.

If a shopper forgets their 3D Secure password, or their payment card isn't enrolled for 3D Secure we aim to provide the ability to continue and authorise the payment. However, in some circumstances (for instance where a payment card must be enrolled with the issuing bank) authentication may not be possible, and the order cannot proceed.

The window of time allowed for authenticating a payment with 3D Secure is limited (to around 10 minutes), so the shopper must answer the request we send within this window of time. After this time the order can't be completed. However, all is not lost because we can sometimes attempt to place the order again.

Returns and refunds

UB's technology places an order on the retailer's existing website on behalf of the shopper. This means the retailer is merchant of record for the order, just as it would be if the shopper was placing their order directly on the retailer's site themselves. This means that the retailer (and not you or UB) is responsible for order fulfilment, returns and refunds.

Any percentage commission we agree to for using the UB service will be net of returns or cancellations. This means the commission is payable on all transactions placed via the UB service.

Basket data

We offer a data feed so you can gain insights across the full ecommerce funnel. This feed provides a 7 day history of data. We recommend you periodically capture this data on your own systems so you can analyse it at your leisure.

Currently the feed provides raw data in JSON format. In the future we may provide a set of tools for data visualisation and analytics.
